Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
